Health Benefits of Vitamin A in Children


Vitamin A, also known as retinol, is the most essential fat soluble vitamin necessary for healthy growth of children. The name retinol originates from the prime function of this vitamin that's regulating the vision.

Requirement of Vit a in children can be fulfilled from animal and plant sources. The best animal sources are liver and tissues. Vit a can also be received by consuming great deal of dark green and dark yellow vegetables. Plants sources basically contain carotenes which are converted to Vitamin A when absorbed by healthy growth of children within the intestine.

Children and Vit a often work together. This is because of the multitude functions the vitamin performs. The key function would be to regulate the vision. Human retina includes four photo pigments that stores Vit a. One of the photo pigments is called rhodopsin that contains rod cells accountable for visual excitation. Other three pigments are collectively referred to as iodopsin that is responsible for day vision.

Aside from regulating the vision, Vitamin for kids is also essential for performing normal activities associated with immune system, bone development, mental growth, tissue maintenance as well as other physiological activities.

According to the RDA Vit a, children of 3 years or younger require more 600 micro grams per day, children of 4-8 years require more 900 microgram per day and children of 9-14 years require 1,700 micro grams each day.

Infants, kids and children each one is greatly influenced by the optimum degree of Vitamin A. If the level is low, they reveal signs of Vitamin A deficiency. With lack of Vitamin A, kids show the signs of loss of appetite, bone abnormalities, dried-out skin and growth retardation. Vitamin A for children is good only till the optimum level is maintained.
